MAWACA

MAWACA

Mawaca is a musical group from São Paulo that researches and recreates, in their own arrangements, the music of the most diverse cultures in the world.


Directed by Magda Pucci, since its foundation in 1993, the group is formed by a vocal group that interprets songs in more than 20 languages and the female singers Angelica LeutwillerChris MiguelCristina  GuiçáMagda PucciRita Bragasandra oak e Zuzu Leiva  are accompanied by an acoustic instrumental group: accordion (Gabriel Levy), cello and flute (Ana Eliza Colomar), soprano sax (Ramiro Marques), bass (Ricardo Zohyo), in addition to percussion instruments such as Indian tablas, Arab derbak, African djembe, berimbau, vibraphone, various tambourines (Armando Tibério and Valéria Zeidan).

The group's repertoire consists of songs from different parts of the globe: Mediterranean, Balkans, Japan, Africaica, Middle East, among others, and more recently with a special focus on Brazilian indigenous music. They are traditional themes that reveal the multiplicity of sounds and musicalities in the world, always seeking to establish and reveal connections with Brazilian musicalities.

With eight albums, four DVDs: CD-Plusastrolabiotucupira.com.breverywhere, Os LusíadasCD-Remixtenants of the worldMusical Ikebanes, Nama Pariret and two books: From all corners of the world and Musical Tales, the group has performed in several countries such as Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, France, Bolivia and China (three times), in addition to from several Brazilian cities such as Londrina, Campinas, Recife, Fortaleza, Garanhuns, São José do Rio Preto, Guarulhos, Franca, Bauru, Botucatu, Jundiaí, Manaus, Rio Branco, Porto Velho, Cacoal, Parintins, among others.
